Competition Time

AV Fair time and it's also time to get a cake ready to enter into the wedding cake competition.  Knew I wanted to do black and white but I have a bad habit of being a procrastinator.  So three days ago I told myself that if I was going to do it then you better get started.  Thank goodness for cutters and molds.  I like the finished product...let's see what the judges have to say.

The rose was already made so I pulled it out of storage and stuck it on the top

Ruffle look made with rose petal cutter and stacked on top of each other row by row and finished off with small medallion mold and piping.

Lalaloopsy

Lalaloopsy for Bailey girl on her 4th birthday.  Strawberry cake with a yummy creamy filling and swiss buttercream for the frosting.  The Lalaloopsys are purchased toys.  Disaster almost happened when the refrigerator shelf almost fell down on it.  Minor damage and pretty much fixable.  Whew!

Yeehaaa!

Request for a two tier cake for a wedding that was to take place in three days that was western theme...hhmmm, three days?  After some research I came up with this.  White cake colored turquoise and all buttercream made with all shortening because it also had to travel to Laughlin, NV where it is predicted to be over 100 degrees.  I am hoping and praying for a good ending to this story.

Full view

Last minute gumpaste sunflowers and the leaves I already had made (time saver there)
Belt buckle using oval and heart cutters with gumpaste turquoise in the center.  The beading  is white spinkles picked out of multicolored ones (I know...crazy and very anal).  Stamped with embossing sticks and painted with silver highlighter.

Wanted  this to look similar to a bandana pattern so used paisley and flower cutters and then piped dots with royal icing.  I did good getting the gumpaste and royal icing the same color.

Minnie Mouse

Fourty-five Minnie Mouse cupcakes for a birthday girl.  Half are strawberry cake with lemon curd filling, and half are what I tried to make taste like pineapple cake but it is very subtle so I added crushed pineapple to the cheesecake pudding for the filling.  Tried flour buttercream for the frosting...taste really good and creamy but kind of finicky to make.  Finished product is pretty darn yummy.  Hopefully the birthday girl agrees.

Do You Feel Lucky...Well Do Ya?

Deziree and Stephen both turned 21 this year and since their birthdays are so close together this cake is for the two of them.  They were going to Las Vegas but those plans didn't pan out but they still wanted to keep with that theme.  Bottom tier is french vanilla with chocolate striped effect that I learned on line (hopefully it turned out the way I wanted) with IMB filling and a little Bailys brushed on the bottom layer.  Top tier is strawberry cake with IMB and strawberry curd for the filling.  Buttercream frosting.

Dice made with rice cereal treats and covered with modeling chocolate...stars added for a little pizzaz

Las Vegas sign made quickly because the first one dropped on the floor and shattered...the first one was much bigger but sometimes you have to go with plan B

Cards add up to 21...His with a king and hers with a queen

A rose added for her to show how I love her

Made a mold of a quarter and used gum paste with silver highlighter...you can see Washingtons head on there (good job Cheri).

Totally Radical

Totally 80's.  French vanilla cake tinted with a swirl of orange...like a creamcicle...filled with whipped cream and fresh strawberries, frosted with buttercream.

a little boom box and rubix cube which could have been a little smaller and the number 12 for her age

roller skate with an emblem from Ghostbusters

Cassette tapes...I must have done good on those because Dave wondered what those little tapes went to

MTV logo with Mr. Smurf that has a Micheal Jackson glove on and confetti cut with paper punches

Pac Man

The back looked a little bare so I used my funky letter cutters for the 80's

Princess Georgie

Georgia's 4th birthday and she requested a princess pink and purple cake.  Strawberry cake with IMBC and fresh strawberry filling. Frosted with buttercream.  It was a hit.

started to look like a wedding cake until adding royal icing dots.  Never made swags before...not bad

drew template for crown and used cutters for cutouts then painted with silver highlighter.  Red jewels were piping gel and edible glitter  mixed together, applied with a toothpick and allowed to dry.
