Girly Skull Cake

Skull cake for a girl celebrating her 11th birthday.  Pink buttercream covered white cake with blue coloring added and they did not want any filling.  For me the filling is the best part but...it wasn't my cake.  This cake was so fun to do.

                                                                                 Too cute
Skull was drawn on template plastic and after many adjustments the shape was cut out of gum paste and outlined in royal icing.  Eye, eye patch and nose cut from gum paste, mouth is royal icing.
Name cut with funky letter cutters
Bows cut from a template and outlined with royal icing, hearts and dots from gum paste
Cupcake decorated to match cake but smaller scale.

Happy Anniversary

For our friends Chuck and Judy celebrating their anniversary.  White cake with pineapple juice added as part of the liquid required and half whipped cream and half white chocolate pudding as the filling.  Buttercream frosting.  I was allowed to do whatever for the decorations so I saw my chance to try out
chocolate roses with buttercream piped leaves.  Modeling chocolate is so nice to work with and stays pliable till done.

Practice Flowers

I have so many flowers that I have made in the past and uselessly sitting a drawer.  After sitting for an extended period of time they become very brittle and difficult to handle so I wanted to add them to my blog before something happens to them.

Sweet pea made about 2 years ago

Tuberose that was the first I made with so much detail

I usually make roses with a five petal cutter but this one was made petal by petal.

This is actually my newest creation which is a gardenia made with a new cutter.  Fun

Sugar Peony

Ordered a new peony cutter and was excited to try it out.  I love peonies in nature and these were easy and fun to make.  My husband asked where I got the flower because it is the wrong time of year for flowers like these.  That was a big complement for him to think they were real.

A close up of the detail on the petals.  Was trying to follow a picture in a magazine.

The one on the left was my first try and  was not ruffled enough for me.  The one on the right is with the adjustment.  Like it better.  I marbled the gum paste just slightly for the center petals.
With my hand in the picture, you can see that they are a good sized flower.
