Practice Flowers

I have so many flowers that I have made in the past and uselessly sitting a drawer.  After sitting for an extended period of time they become very brittle and difficult to handle so I wanted to add them to my blog before something happens to them.

Sweet pea made about 2 years ago

Tuberose that was the first I made with so much detail

I usually make roses with a five petal cutter but this one was made petal by petal.

This is actually my newest creation which is a gardenia made with a new cutter.  Fun

Sugar Peony

Ordered a new peony cutter and was excited to try it out.  I love peonies in nature and these were easy and fun to make.  My husband asked where I got the flower because it is the wrong time of year for flowers like these.  That was a big complement for him to think they were real.

A close up of the detail on the petals.  Was trying to follow a picture in a magazine.

The one on the left was my first try and  was not ruffled enough for me.  The one on the right is with the adjustment.  Like it better.  I marbled the gum paste just slightly for the center petals.
With my hand in the picture, you can see that they are a good sized flower.

Fantasy Butterfly

A fantasy butterfly from Alan Dunn's Celebration Cakes book.  Picture does not do it justice.  It's looks even better in person.  Body and all four wings are wired separately.  Wings were cut from a template and body from a purchased insect body mold.
